I.E. Irodov Questions related to JEE Syllabus and How to Use I.E. Irodov Effectively?

I.E. Irodov : The Famous Book

There is hardly a JEE Aspirant who might not have heard of the book "Problems in General Physics" by I.E. Irodov and is quite famous as a collection of TOUGH questions in Physics. This book helps to develop good visualisation and problem-solving skills.

If you are also looking for the Modus-Operandi and Best Books for JEE Mains and Advanced, THIS POST will be helpful to you.

Is I.E. Irodov Compulsory for acing JEE Physics?

NO. One point which should be very clear that this book is not at all COMPULSORY to get good marks in JEE Mains or Advanced. One can get a very good hold on JEE Physics even through H.C Verma/D.C. Pandey, Institute Material and Previous Years questions with proper revision of previously done questions and concepts.

When a book gets this famous among all aspirants, solving the book sometimes becomes more of a Fashion thing rather than an Interest-based thing. So, it's better to be aware of at what point of time you should really solve it. Those who are very clear with their concepts and have done all basic material, are good to go for it. But if you don't have enough time for it, there's no problem in saying,"Maybe I'll do it later on."

Benefits of I.E. Irodov

If you find Physics quite interesting and want to excel in Olympiads, then surely you should spend time with the book. It gives BEAUTIFUL exposure to Physics and lets you churn your brain which is going to help a lot especially during JEE Advanced when you are bound to see brand new questions every year. (But still do not neglect Chemistry and Mathematics as they are equally important from JEE perspective)

Which Questions to Solve from I.E. Irodov that are related to JEE Syllabus?

The book is quite vast in itself, and even many faculties can't solve all its questions. So, you should only do PIN-POINTED questions from the book, as listed below:

Part 1 - Physical Fundamentals of Mechanics : 1-54, 58-108, 110, 118-131, 133-199, 200-206, 209-233, 234-266, 269-279, 290-299, 309-311, 315-324, 326-332.

Part 2 - Thermodynamics and Molecular Physics : 1-20, 26-61, 43-56, 62-79, 116-127, 149, 160-181, 247-251, 254-257.

Part 3 - Electrodynamics :

Part 4 - Oscillations and Waves :

Part 5 - Optics :

Part 6 - Atomic and Nuclear Physics :

Where to find I.E. Irodov Questions?

Many institutes already include few important questions from I.E Irodov into their material and some even provide them at the end in Subjective exercises. So, in that case, you never need to mandatorily solve it separately. Otherwise you can solve selected problems from the book itself.

Are all I.E. Irodov Questions Super-Difficult?

No. There are questions in the book that you might be able to get in one go itself, and many of them require STICK-TO-THE-BASICS kind of approach and good Visualisation. It has lots of questions that work in 3-D Space which might add to make a question more difficult. Ya, but many questions are quite difficult/conceptual and require rigorous thinking as well.

When to solve I.E. Irodov during JEE Preparation?

You should solve the book whenever you get some extra time after doing bare minimum things in each of the subjects Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Never ever skip basic things to do in all three subjects just for the sake of solving extra books like this one.

Please don't start solving the book just because your friends are solving it, build your basics first, many students score good in JEE Physics even without doing Irodov, so don't take it as a Respect factor. Your marks will earn more respect for you rather than the books which you solved. Your interest should be the driving factor to solve this book.

Even if you are determined to solve this book but aren't able to manage with regular studies, wait for the correct time. You will get some time during coaching and school vacations. You will also get good amount of time during the gap between Class 11th and 12th session, it's quite a nice time to clear backlogs of 11th as well as solve books/questions that you couldn't. Also, you will get ample of time after JEE Mains January Attempt in which you can work on your weaknesses and solve the selected questions before JEE Advanced.

How to Use I.E. Irodov Effectively?

To get maximum benefits from the book, use it SMARTLY. Solve the questions which you are able to crack, then spend some time with the other ones. If you still don't get, discuss among friends, then maybe ask rest questions to your faculty or see the solutions. Many teachers have actually put in great hard work to make solutions for the book. It's always good to read solutions in-depth for the ones you did not get because it will teach us about new methods of approaching a problem which is very beneficial during JEE Advanced. And if the Physics paper turns out to be a rather tough one, then you will have a big edge over others. You can leave few questions for later as they can help to revise our concepts.
